Cellist Gabriel Martins have been recomposing tunes from the past written for other instruments into new arrangements suitable for self-accompanied cello. His inspirations include Romantic solo piano, Irish harp music, Baroque work for viola da gamba, and more. Free sheet music is freely-downloadable from his website gabrielmartinscello.com.

Here is Gabriel’s version of “Romanze” from Schumann’s solo piano work, “Carnival Scenes from Vienna”, Op. 26. It sounds hauntingly sad and Baroque, even when played on a modern cello setup.

Following is Gabriel’s transformation of Celtic harp music “Blind Mary” by Turlough O’Carolan into self-accompanied cello music.

Now Gabriel rearranged “The Human Voices” by Marin Marais for viola da gamba into self-accompanied cello music.

As mentioned, all his recompositions are available in sheet music, freely-downloadable from his website gabrielmartinscello.com.
